Better solution to the Cloth vs. Disposable Debate

The debate has raged on for decades, and the question is ever more pressing with the reality of our evironmental breakdown.

What is a green mommy to do? I started out with my first baby in Ireland, totally committed to cloth. The idea of all those disposables sitting for centuries just grossed me out, I wanted to save money, and being Ireland and all, the water thing wasn't a major issue.

Well, that didn't last long. Not that I minded the washing, but it quickly became untenable. When renovating our centuries old home, we went months without a washer during construction. Then after moving to America we were in a college campus apartment with the only machines shared with dozens of 18 year olds who truly wouldn't appreciate the smell. The list goes on an on, and 4 children later (3 still using diapers of some sort) I am riddled with guilt at all those disposables that I have contributed to landfills all of the country.

Back on track with my green focus, I did more investigating, and happy to say I found the perfect solution!

I LOVE gDiapers!

I love my gDiapers! They aren't perfect, but far more so than anything I have ever tried.

gDiapers are cloth on the outside, with a flushable isert. Thats right, FLUSHABLE! But that is not all, you can also compost them, or bin them and it only takes 9 months or so to decompose (compared to centuries!) I still have to wash the outsides, but that is so much easier!

What I like:

* My house doesn't smell anymore!!!!!!!! Major! * I am not feeling so guilty with every diaper I change, and envisioning the centuries that it will be sitting in thr ground. * My kids look cute in them! * My 5 year old buys that they are "training pants" and wears them to bed readily. * They look better under the baby's dresses. * Blowouts don't travel out the back top. * I have the choice: flush, compost, or trash. * The company is so cool, and customer service rocks. * After the cost of the covers, the price is almost the same as disposables.

Here is what I like ...a little less:

* They scrunch up over night so the pee leaks out the sides. * Flushing is easy, but the gel beads can get over the side of the bowl and don't wipe away easily. * I still have to wash the covers, although not after each wear. And washing them is more casual since they aren't covered in poo.

Overall, the gDiapers are a big HIT!
